Internet ExercisesChapter 41. Organizational Vision and Mission. Select a well-known corporation prominent in your area that you are familiar with and go to its web site. Find its vision and mission statement. Do you think that the vision and mission statement truly reflects the corporation’s activities? 2. Vision and/or Mission Statements. Go the various web sites of five well-known corporations and find their vision and/or mission statements. How does each company set its mission statement? Is it: 1) targeting? 2) common-enemy? 3) role-model? or 4) internal-transformation? What elements of each mission lead you to this conclusion? 3. Strategic Plan. Go to NASA’s strategic plan. Browse through the latest strategic plan (it will be long, but just skim through and catch the “gist” of the plan). Then scroll down to “Enterprise Plans” and select three of these. Skim through it. How does NASA’s strategic plan relate to the organization’s vision and mission? How is each center’s specific implementation plan connected to NASA? List specific items in each implementation plan that are consistent with NASA’s strategic plan. 4. Budgets. Go to the web site of Canada’s Department of Finance and the federal government’s recent budgets. There are several budget summaries presented. Select one and answer the following questions: 1) What is a budget? 2) What is this budget for? 3) How does this budget relate to the Canadian government’s planning? 4) Do you agree with this budget? If not, how would you reallocate the spending? 5. Personal Career Plan. Use this exercise with the “Develop Your Management Potential” assignment at the end of the chapter. To enhance your decision-making with more information, search the Internet for good sites that give information on different careers that you are considering. List these URLs at the end of the assignment. |
