Chapter 7

1.Balanced Scorecard. Go to the Balanced Score Card Institute’s web site. Find information on how balanced scorecards can be used in public and non-profit organizations. How would a for-profit firm’s balanced scorecard differ from a profit-oriented firm?

2. Production Control. Go to www.barcode-inventory-control-software.com, which is the web site of Production Services and Systems, a company that sells products that help other companies with control systems. What products does the company sell? Provide a summary of each service or product and explain how a supermarket would potentially use these.

3. Control Article. Go to your library’s web site and using a business periodical index, find any article about control in management. Summarize the article in a one-page paper and provide your personal insight or opinion on the information provided in the article.

4. Control Systems. Go to www.fastcompany.com/online/13/power.html to read about a radical business model of a control system. What kinds of control processes are evident in this company?

5. Control Case Study. Use the Internet to search for a company that has a good control system. What are the features of its control system? Is it based on accounting, product quality, production, or another element of the business? How does it maintain its control system?
