Internet ExercisesChapter 11
2. Job Characteristics Model. Go www.monster.com and pick out three different jobs that sound interesting to you. Using a scale of 1-5 (1 being poor and 5 being excellent), rate each job on the following characteristics: 1) skill variety; 2) task identify; and 3) task significance. (Feedback would be difficult for an outsider to rate.) Then add the scores. Which job was the best? Is this the type of job you would prefer? Why or why not? 3. Organizational Charts. Go to the web site of the United Nations. Who is the “top management” at the United Nations? What kind of departmentalization is used? What are the various departments (just underneath the top management)? 4. Reengineering. Go to at least three web sites of companies that sell consulting services to firms that need reengineering. What do these consulting services offer? What special areas do they handle? 5. Examples of Departmentalization. Search the Internet for real world firms that serve as examples of each of the types of departmentalization. Look for a company with a: 1) functional departmentalization; 2) product departmentalization; 3) customer departmentalization; 4) geographic departmentalization; and 5) matrix departmentalization. Print out or develop an organizational chart for each of these. |
