Chapter 14

1. Baldrige National Quality Award. Go to the web site of the Baldrige National Quality Award. Select one of the award winners from the most recent year and read about the company. Why did it win the award? List the characteristics of the organization and its performance that resulted in the award.

2. Productivity. Go to www.fastcompany.com and search for an article or top management perspective on productivity. Summarize the article in a one-page paper and provide your insight/opinion.

3. Inventory Control. Go to www.findarticles.com and find three articles on inventory control systems used by different companies. Contrast and compare the systems in a three-page paper.

4. Customer Service Web Site. Use the Internet to search for a company that is well known for its customer service. A good idea is to look for e-commerce sites – such as Amazon.com – and review the web site. How is the web site set up to deliver good service? What are the characteristics of quality e-commerce service? How would these be different from that of a traditional business that does not engage in e-commerce?

5. Personal Productivity. Use the Internet to find at least three different products that can help you improve your own productivity. Provide a thorough description of the products that you found, including a cost/benefit analysis.
